Social media is a great influence on our day to day life. We connect with people; give them glimpses of what is going on in our world while having fun at the same time. Instagram is one of many examples of this. We can share pictures and short videos through this platform. However, it is a fact that you crave for lots of followers. There is this inner joy we get when our pictures or videos get up to a hundred likes or even more. Don’t worry, I am not judging. This is why I have decided to give you a few tips on how you could possibly increase your number of followers. Sit tight and keep reading :D

1. POST REGULARLY TO GET MORE INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS

Firstly, I personally wouldn’t want to follow an account on Instagram that posts about three times in a week. I believe I am not the only one who feels that way. You created the Instagram account to share your pictures with people. A person who is hardly active is not really worth clicking that follow button for. I am not saying you should post 10 pictures in a day oh (Please, don’t!!), but you should keep the account fresh and exciting. Trust me, people appreciate that and will most likely follow you.

2. LET INSTAGRAM YOUR POSTS BE MEANINGFUL

I have to clarify my first tip. Posting regularly doesn’t mean posting pictures that are revolting or meaningless. You can post pictures that show your crazy side, even inspirational quotes once in a while. Your posts should be pleasing to the eyes. Who wouldn’t want to wake up to a post giving hope about a beautiful day ahead? No one right. I really think you should try it…

3. USE COMMON HASHTAGS ON INSTAGRAM

Hashtags help a lot, but not just any hashtag. There are hashtags that are really popular on Instagram. When searches are made using these hashtags, your post will pop up there as well. Few examples are #throwbackthursday, #wcw #motivationmonday, #food, etc. Beautiful posts will attract those followers you crave. Apart from these popular hashtags, there are people who use hashtags such as #teamfollowback, #ifollowback, #likeback,etc. You can use these too and follow your new followers back. You shouldn’t overdo this though. It will look creepy.

4. TAG FRIENDS TO YOUR POST

Another thing that can get you followers is to tag friends in your post. When you tag your friend, every of his/her follower sees that post as well. Now if that post is a meaningful one, more than one person will be tempted to take a peek at your profile and when he/she sees more of your lovely posts, that person could just click that follow button in appreciation.

5. YOUR PROFILE SHOULD MAKE SENSE

In everything we do, presentation is key. When someone finally takes a peek at your profile and sees something like “I can blow you up”, he/she could just give an invisible shake of the head and move on (I know I will, sounds like boko tinz). I don’t speak for everyone though, but I know that an annoying profile is a huge no-no for a lot of people. You don’t have to put your life history in your profile but just say something that makes a lot of sense. There is a high chance of you getting more followers with a meaningful and concise profile.

6. TRY TO INTERACT WITH YOUR FOLLOWERS

When they comment on your pictures, reply them back. Like their pictures as well and try to drop funny and helpful comments on their posts once in a while. You are a human being not a robot, so let people feel your online presence.

7. PUBLICIZE YOUR HANDLE THROUGH YOUR OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS

I mentioned earlier that Instagram is one of many social media apps. You can make use of your other social media accounts, such as Facebook and Twitter, to publicize your account to more people. You can even use it as your Whatsapp status for a while and post it on groups you belong to as well. This has proven to be quite effective in getting more followers.

8. USE CREATIVE CAPTIONS

People like humor. You don’t have to be serious all the time. Who says you cannot say something funny about your posts. You can even ask tag your friends and put in a caption that will require response from your followers. A non-follower can join in and eventually follow you.

9. FOLLOW OTHERS

Don’t quarrel with that follow button. You should click it once in a while too. Follow people and like their posts as well. People tend to get discouraged when they see someone with a profile showing “100 followers, 5 following”.

10. IDENTIFY WITH YOUR CLIQUE

You may be a student or business personnel but there is a big chance that you are part of a group or relate with a group of people. You can look for accounts related to your clique and follow them. For example, as a student, you can follow pages affiliated with your school. You even get to meet your school mates in the process. Some of these accounts also give shout-outs to their followers occasionally. Don’t be shy to join in. There is a high chance that more than half of the people who view that post will follow you.

Do not just aim for a lot of followers for fame; you should make an effort to spread some love through your social media accounts.
